University of Wisconsin-Madison | Madison Area Technical College
UW-Extension Dane County | Edgewood College
UW-Madison (Office of the Chancellor, Morgridge Center for Public Service, and School of Ecology with University of Wisconsin-Extension) joined with the South Metropolitan Planning Council (SMPC) in 2000 to develop a more comprehensive, coordinated and long-term relationship with campus, community, and neighborhood partners on the South side. The intent was to bring the University into South Madison, and to bring South Madison into the University to create mutually beneficial programs and problem-solving. In October 2001, the University leased space at the Villager Mall and helped to bring related UW programs - Neighborhood Law Project, Family Projects- and a Community Teams Initiative partnership. In addition, a separate educational partnership effort began with Madison Area Technical College (MATC), University of Wisconsin-Extension, and Edgewood College. Today, additional community programs have also located at The Villager, joining with CCP and South Madison Health & Family Center-Harambee to provide broader services to the South side.
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) is the technical and community college for the greater Madison area. It is dedicated to providing accessible, high quality instruction and technical experience to meet the needs of its students and area employers. Approximately 50,000 students enroll in courses every year.
The mission of UW-Extension Dane County is to extend the knowledge and resources of the University to people where they live and work. Faculty and staff provide educational programs in the areas of family living/nutrition education, youth development, agriculture/horticulture, and community resource development to residents. The informal, non-credit programs engage people and their communities in positive change.
Edgewood College offers personalized education centered on moving theory into practice. Partnership, one of the founding values of our Sinsinawa Dominican sponsors, represents the mutuality that exists in a sharing of ideas, aspirations, concerns, and creativity among people. This spirit has always characterized our learning environment.
